Fitzroy Falls is about 18 km from The Secret Garden Cottage, roughly 25 minutes’ drive up Barrengarry Mountain. Stay in Kangaroo Valley and you get the falls and the national park by day, then a wood fire, a lookout over the escarpment and dinner within walking distance at night. The cottage is exclusive use, sleeps 6 and welcomes dogs.

The falls drop 81 metres into the Yarrunga Valley. An accessible elevated walkway leads to the main lookout, and the West Rim walk (3.5 km return) gives longer views along the cliffs. After rain the falls are spectacular.
The Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival is held each October and fills the showground with music, poetry and dance. The showground is about 100 metres from the cottage, so you can walk to the stages and back for a break by the fire. The festival runs over three days on the third weekend of October, with around 70 artists, a dance venue, workshops, kids’ activities and food stalls. Under-18s get in free with a paying adult. Check the festival’s website (opens in a new tab) for dates.
If you’re coming for the festival, book early. The minimum stay is two nights.
Watch the light change on the escarpment from the Secret Garden Lookout, light the fire pit, or settle in by the wood fire. The Friendly Inn and the village cafés are about 500 metres away.
